INFORMATION
Seifert
In the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Goch, a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, stands a beautiful organ crafted by Romanus Seifert & Sohn (Kevelaer) since 2015. This organ replaced an earlier model, also built by Seifert in 1958, which was destroyed when the church tower collapsed in 1993, burying the instrument under the rubble.
The current organ has a French symphonic tonal structure and contains 42 stops, perfectly suited to the acoustic properties of the Gothic space. The pedal towers on the left and right of the organ facade echo the form of the original tower, a subtle reference to the tragic event.
The organ has three manuals: the Grand Orgue (I), the Récit expressif (II) with a swell box, the Solo (III), and the Pédale. The action is mechanical, except for the Solo manual. With a powerful series of principals from 16′ to 2′, the Grand Orgue provides a solid foundation, ideal for supporting the reed stops. The Récit offers versatile possibilities with, among others, the warm string stops and the characterful Voix Humaine 8′. The Solo manual is inspired by the work of Cavaillé-Coll, particularly the organ in the Abbey of Saint-Ouen in Rouen, and provides additional possibilities with its beautiful flute stops and the rare Violoncelle 8′. The Grand Orgue itself has only one reed stop, making it necessary to couple the third manual to the first to utilize the reeds. The pedal contains two 32′ stops, the Sousbasse and the Violonbasse, with the lowest pipes installed horizontally outside the organ case due to space limitations. Thanks to the Super II to P and Super III to P couplings, the pedal can also function as a standalone solo voice, offering a wide range of tonal colors.
